You're entitled to a free NHS-funded sight test at DH Burns if you are under 16, aged 16–18 in full-time education, aged 60 or over, or have diabetes or glaucoma. You also qualify if you receive certain benefits (such as Income Support, Pension Credit Guarantee Credit or Universal Credit within the qualifying thresholds), or are advised by an ophthalmologist that you're at risk of glaucoma.
If you're not sure whether you're eligible, call us and we'll confirm before your visit. DH Burns is an NHS-registered optician in Tottenham.
NHS-funded sight tests are free for eligible patients. For everyone else, DH Burns offers competitively priced private eye examinations that include full health screening and digital retinal imaging. Fees vary by examination type, so please call 020 8808 7910 for current pricing and to book.
Most adults should have an eye examination at least every two years. More frequent tests — usually annually — are recommended for children, people aged 70 and over, patients with diabetes, and anyone at higher risk of glaucoma. If your eyes need closer monitoring, the optometrist will advise the right interval for you.
A full examination at DH Burns checks both your vision and your eye health. It includes a sight test to determine whether you need glasses or contact lenses, plus digital retinal imaging, intraocular pressure measurement, peripheral visual field analysis and a binocular (eye-teaming) assessment. The optometrist tailors the examination to you and explains every result, with time to answer your questions.
Yes. DH Burns uses a digital retinal camera to photograph the inside of the eye, so even small changes can be detected, recorded and compared at future visits. This supports earlier detection of conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic changes — helping protect your long-term sight.
Yes — a routine eye examination can reveal more than your prescription. At DH Burns we screen for glaucoma, cataracts, age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, and an eye test can also show early signs of conditions such as high blood pressure. Where appropriate, we refer you to the right specialist or hospital service.
DH Burns carries an extensive collection of leading designer eyewear, including Tom Ford, Gucci, Ray-Ban, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Oakley, Ted Baker, Hugo Boss, Police and Polo Ralph Lauren. We also offer prescription sunglasses and sports eyewear, all dispensed and crafted by skilled technicians for an accurate, comfortable fit.
Yes. Our optometrists are experienced in contact lens fitting and aftercare, including daily, monthly, toric (for astigmatism) and multifocal lenses. A proper fitting protects your eye health and gives you sharp, comfortable vision — so we take the time to find the right lens and teach safe handling.
Yes. DH Burns provides assessment and coloured overlays and precision tints that can help reduce visual stress and improve reading comfort for some people, including those with dyslexia-related visual difficulties. Book an assessment to find out whether coloured overlays could help you or your child.
Yes. Our expert technicians provide precise dispensing, same-day repairs and emergency glasses wherever possible. If your spectacles are damaged or you've lost a pair, pop into the practice on Tottenham High Road or call 020 8808 7910 and we'll help as quickly as we can.
